How to keep your armchair reupholstery looking great

Home All How to keep your armchair reupholstery looking great

Now that your favourite armchair has been revived, the question is: how can you keep it looking and feeling this fabulous for as long as possible?

Our armchair reupholstery service comes with a 3 Year Quality Guarantee, so you’re off to a good start. The secret to maintaining the good look and feel of your armchair reupholstery is actually nothing more than a good ongoing care routine.

This is probably very similar to what you’d do anyway – though you might find a tip or two that you haven’t heard yet. Plus, if you’ve got new sofa reupholstery, the aftercare and cleaning is the same method for each.

Armchair reupholstery aftercare

1. Ongoing care routine

  • Vacuum your armchair upholstery regularly using a brush attachment. This stops accumulated dirt from wearing away at the fabric.
  • Rotate and reverse any loose cushion covers regularly so all surfaces wear naturally at the same rate.
  • Keep sharp objects away from your armchair to avoid snagging the fabric – on clothes and handbags, for example. It can be difficult, but keep your pets off too!
  • Plump up your feather and soft back and seat cushions regularly.
  • Avoid placing your armchair in direct sunlight, which can fade your colours and patterns over time.
  • Clean accidental spills as soon as possible. When spot cleaning, test in a small inconspicuous area first.
  • If you’ve chosen a Chenille or Velvet fabric, vacuum regularly with a brush attachment to reduce the natural flattening of the pile.

2. Cleaning your armchair reupholstery

Unlike our washable loose armchair covers, which you can pop into your washing machine, removable cushion covers that come with armchair reupholstery should be cleaned in situ, preferably by a professional upholstery cleaning service.

Saying that, if you want to give your sofa and armchair upholstery a bit of a lift, you can use some gentle household ingredients like bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and carpet or upholstery cleaner.

We’ve put together a How to clean sofa upholstery at home guide, which details the methods of general cleaning, spot cleaning and stain removal. Obviously, it’s relevant to armchairs too!

3. Emergency cleaning and stain removal

The guide we mentioned above shares ways you can tackle marks and stains using general household cleaning ingredients. However, you might prefer to use something specifically designed to care for your high quality armchair reupholstery.

Our Fabric Care Kit will help you to maintain the showroom finish of your armchair reupholstery – it’s suitable for your entire suite and other fabrics around your home. The kit costs only £30.00 and contains:

  • 500ml Fabric Deodoriser
  • 500ml Fabric Cleaning Solution
  • 500ml Fabric Stain Remover
  • Cleaning cloth

What is armchair reupholstery?

Reupholstery revives a much loved piece of furniture, without compromising on the comfort and style of the original design. It can be more economical than buying new furniture of comparable quality. Better still, your armchair or sofa won’t go into landfill – you can choose an eco-friendly filling (Quallofil) too.

Our master upholsterers strip your furniture down to its frame, inspect and tighten joints, replace worn or broken webs, springs, padding and stuffing, and reupholster your armchair in the fabric of your choice.
